On Monday's episode of Home Town, Erin Napier becomes emotional when she realized someone close to her used to live in the home she and her husband, Ben, were in the process of renovating.

During the episode, the HGTV star discovers that her grandmother and her grandmother's sister, Bert, used to live in the home. "I hadn't heard this in my whole life," she says. "Of course, my grandmother isn't able to talk anymore. She's lost her speech." Erin's cousin and her great aunt Bert visit the home to tell her more about their connection to the home. Erin learns that the Stassi family, which had a restaurant in Laurel, owned the home. "It was all these single ladies who were all living here and courting, dating their husbands that would marry someday," Erin says. "My grandparents met when she lived here. My story began here."

In early May, Erin shared the news that her grandmother passed away on Instagram. She posted two vintage photos of her late grandparents along with a touching caption. "My sweet grandmother went to heaven today," she wrote. "My grandfather passed in 2001, and for 19 years she lived without him. I’m so happy that he’s shouting 'here she comes!' today, even if my heart is broken for us without her."

The episode was filmed before her grandmother passed away. However, during the past year, Erin told People that she wasn't sure that her grandmother recognized her and her family when they visited her. “So I would tell her things and she didn't really respond,” the home renovation star told People.

After learning more about her personal connection to the home, Erin starts to tear up. "My grandmother and I were really, really close," she says. "And I wish that she could see this." She begins to cry and mouths, "Sorry," to Ben who gives her a hug.
