The actor is freed from charge of drug ownership, while his accomplice is ordered to enter defence

Actor Benjy acquitted and discharged.

6 Apr – Actor Khaeryll Benjamin Ibrahim, or more well known by the name Benjy, has been freed by Muar Magistrate's Court from charge of possessing drugs with a friend in March last year.

According to Sinar Harian, the decision was made by Magistrate Muhammad Hidayat Wahab after the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case against the actor.

According to the original charge, the son of the late actress Azean Irdawaty along with his friend, Raja Shariff Hidayahtullah Raja Shariffuddin, was charged with allegedly possessing drugs after they were detained in a roadblock at Jalan Pagoh-Muar on 27 March 2015.

Both were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, whereby if convicted, both will be prosecuted under Section 39B(2) of the same act, which carries the mandatory death sentence.

Meanwhile, Benjy's friend, Raja Shariff, was not released and instead ordered to enter his defence next month on 3 and 5 May after the prosecution had successfully proven a prima facie case against him.

This was not the first time for the actor to be detained due to drugs, as he was also previously detained three times since 2010 for the same offence.
