The 35-year-old took eight wickets in the First Test at Edgbaston and dismissed Zak Crawley on the opening day at Lord's to take his career total to 496, so likely replacement Todd Murphy has a lot to live up to.
Matt Renshaw has also been released from the squad, while England's vice-captain Ollie Pope has withdrawn after dislocating his shoulder while fielding during the Second Test. Essex's Dan Lawrence, who has not been called upon since March 2022, is the expected replacement.
