It was announced in early December that Japanese band End Of The World’s Satoshi Fukase will be acting alongside Masaki Suda in a movie titled Character. This marks singer-songwriter Fukase’s first acting performance.

Opening in Japan cinemas next June, the movie pits Suda as Keigo Yamashiro, an aspiring manga artist, against Fukase as Morozumi, a murderer. Yamashiro visits a family to do sketching, but instead witnesses the criminal who killed the family. Yet, Yamashiro lies to the police that he did not see the murderer. He begins drawing a suspense manga titled 34 with the murderer as the villain. The manga becomes a hit, but cases similar to incidents in his manga starts happening in real life. One day, Morozumi appears in front of Yamashiro.

Regarding his acting debut, Fukase said, “When I received the offer, I was honestly very worried whether I could do this or if I would cause inconvenience. But since I had more than one year’s time to prepare, I had a really enjoyable time amidst moderate tension when the filming started. When I finished all my scenes, I almost burst into tears.”

Suda also commented, “I heard it was Fukase’s first movie, but it totally didn’t feel like it. Rather, he had so many things I could learn from. Fukase was very cool and beautiful. I’m sure you’ll be surprised. I’m looking forward to the finished production.”

End Of The World, otherwise known as Sekai No Owari, is best known for their unique musical style that covers a wide range of genres, including electro-pop, jazz, rock and classical music. Spearheading the band as the lead vocalist and songwriter is none other than Fukase, who has a distinctive voice.

Their notable songs include Anti-hero and SOS, which were used in the 2015 Attack On Titan film series. The band also performed in Singapore at Resorts World Sentosa in 2017, and at the F1 Grand Prix in 2018. End Of The World was on Spotify’s Tokyo Super Hits Live late last November, together with Arashi.
