Emily Ratajkowski's burnt copper hair colour is the perfect summer inspiration for brunettes

Emily Ratajkowski has entered her redhead era.

The model, author and podcast host revealed her red hair transformation on Instagram last night with the succinct caption "Gone red". Her previously mocha tresses now has a warm touch of burnt copper, courtesy of celebrity colourist Jenna Perry. The look sees brighter tones along the lengths of the hair while keeping the colour deeper on the roots, which makes for a low-maintenance way to embrace going red, especially for those with a darker natural colour like Ratajkowski.

Perry brought plenty of depth to the hair colour which adds interest to the look depending on the lighting its seen in. In a video posted on Ratajkowski's TikTok, the tone appears much lighter and sunkissed, perfectly enhancing the 32 year-old's perma-tanned complexion.

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, A-list colourist Josh Wood recently said, "Copper is one of the most flattering hair colours and can suit most skin tones." While the AW23 runways were awash with Manic Panic style HD-bright neon red hair, in real life, opting for copper is easier to maintain and carries a more grown-up appeal yet still feels expressive.

Ratajkowski isn't the only celebrity who's recently "gone red". At the London premiere of Barbie, actor Nicola Coughlan embraced Titian blonde locks while Megan Fox debuted russet tones earlier this year. Going warm red for summer is a great way for brunettes to switch up their hair colour – the sunlight will also pick up the subtle, lighter tones in your hair – without committing to a full-on bleaching process.

To keep your colour looking fresh and your strands healthy, do like Ratajkowski and employ nourishing haircare products in your routine such as the Kérastase Chroma Absolu range which helps to lock in vibrancy and maximise shine.
