Elon Musk and Grimes Are Dating

Elon Musk is reportedly dating Canadian musician Grimes, and will walk the Met Gala red carpet with her on Monday night, according to Page Six.

The SpaceX and Tesla founder and CEO met Grimes (real name Claire Boucher) on the internet, but not through dating apps or social media, Page Six reports. Instead, they found common ground over an obscure joke about artificial intelligence (of course). For the 2015 video accompanying her songs "Flesh Without Blood" and "Life in the Vivid Dream," Grimes created a character called "Rococo Basilisk." The term is a combined reference to Roko's Basilisk, a theoretical evil AI being that tortures people, and the 18th century architectural style called Rococo.

Then, according to Page Six's source, a month ago, Musk was going to tweet the same combination of words as a joke, but discovered that Grimes had already made the connection.

Today, Musk finally got around to tweeting his wordplay masterpiece:

After the two exchanged a joke recently on Twitter, a fan suggested that the two date. Musk had only this to say:

Earlier this year, Musk and actress Amber Heard reportedly broke up, after dating sporadically since 2016. Heard also attended the Gala on Monday night. It was also recently rumored that he was dating Outdoor Voices CEO and founder Tyler Haney, but Musk seemingly dispelled that rumor.
