From Country Living

Ellen DeGeneres revealed this evening that her father, Elliott DeGeneres, has passed away at the age of 92. In an emotional on-air segment, DeGeneres spoke about her father, his life and her experience of saying goodbye to him.

"He had a good long life, and he lived his life exactly how he wanted," DeGeneres said, sharing a photograph of herself as a child with her father. "He was Christian Science his entire life, he never had medicine, never went to a doctor, I never had a vaccination, we never had medicine growing up. He was very proud of me, he loved the show, and he was a kind man, a very accepting man, there was not one bone of judgment in his body."

DeGeneres recalled a childhood vacation with her father during which they took a tour of the Warner Bros. lot, where DeGeneres now works. "I have my own stage with my name on it, and he was really proud of that. Before he passed away I got to talk to him, I got to say goodbye to him, and I was leaving the building and I looked back, and there was a rainbow over the Warner Bros studio… This is what I saw after I talked to my dad, and he died ten minutes later. Pretty amazing."

DeGeneres' loss comes shortly after she and her wife Portia de Rossi were forced to evacuate from their home in Montecito, California, following the deadly mudslides that have affected the area.
