Elisa Chan opens up about husband's death at new concert

25 Jul – Singer Elisa Chan has recently opened up about coping with the loss of her husband at her new concert, nine years after he lost his battle with lung cancer.

As reported on Mingpao, the singer who kicked off her 12-show concert at the Wan Chai Academy of Performing Arts recently, revealed to the audience that she was reminded of the tragedy that struck her in the past when she went to Celine Dion's concert recently.

It is noted that Dion lost her husband René Angélil back in 2016 following a heart attack. Angélil was also battling throat cancer at the time.

"She has the same experience as me. She continued to perform following her husband's death, singing and belting her heart out knowing how many tears she has shed," she said.

Speaking about the most memorable incident following her own husband's death in June 2009, Elisa said that despite her grief, she gathered herself to join good friend Frances Yip Lai-yee and Maria Cordero in a reunion concert in October the same year.

"I was performing with Maria and Frances when suddenly my mind went blank. The lyrics were stuck in my throat and I couldn't sing it. When we completed the performance and went backstage, I couldn't help but cry," she said.

Elisa said that Frances, who didn't know that she had lost her husband a few months prior, was surprised by her emotional breakdown.

"I later apologised to her and told her the reason why I cried," she said.

Speaking about the latest concert, the singer said that she is satisfied with the overall performance.

"Every sentence that was spoken on the stage is true. Life is like a drama, drama reflects real life, and true love lasts forever," she added.
