Elaine Jin admits to battling cancer
12 Mar – Hong Kong actress Elaine Jin recently confirmed that she has been diagnosed with cancer - specifically uterine serous papillary carcinoma (USPC).
As reported on Mingpao, the actress shared the news via partner Suzy Wong's radio show, saying that she found out about the condition early this year and had undergone surgery to remove it in February.
Speaking about how she first found out about it, Elaine said that she went to get a pap smear with her daughter Emma, who went to visit her before the Lunar New Year.
"She left Hong Kong on the 27th, and the next day, the nurse contacted me and asked me to consult the doctor because the result wasn't good. I went on the 30th and was told that there is a 90 percent chance that I have cervical cancer," she said.
Elaine shared that while she was devastated by the news, she still dolled herself up for the Lunar New Year, and bravely faced her operation on the fifth day of the new Chinese calendar.
The actress revealed that only two people knew about her condition at the time – Suzy, and good friend Rosamund Kwan.
"My daughter was the last to know since I didn't want to disturb her in England. Although it is the first stage, USPC is malignant and the chance of recurrence is great. You can't have a minimally invasive surgery. The doctor has to cut out the lymph node, uterus, and appendix at once," she said.
However, despite her condition, Elaine said that she was the happiest during her illness, as she was able to spend a lot of time with her loved ones.
"It was the first time that my sister and I was able to have long conversations," she said.
The actress also urged the public to always do regular check-up and have medical insurance. She also hopes to share her chemotherapy journey with everybody soon.
