When Marvel announced that the next Iron Man would be a 15-year-old black woman (who’s a GENIUS) we were SO ELATED.

However, it did pose the question of what the character, Riri Williams, would call herself. Ironwoman? Well, according to EW, writer Brian Michael Bendis cleared that mystery up earlier today in an interview with Wired, where he shared that Riri’s superhero alter ego would be called Ironheart.

Let’s just all take a moment to appreciate how badass that name is.

Seriously, it makes her sound like a Medieval knight.

Said Bendis of the choice:

“Iron Woman seemed old fashioned to some; Iron Maiden looked like a legal nightmare.”

(Also, for the record, we are totally over female superheroes being called things like “lady” or, in this case, “maiden.” It’s unnecessary gendering that we can do without when it comes to new heroes — since at this point no one is changing the names of classic characters.)

Bendis continued,

“And Ironheart, coined by [former Marvel editor-in-chief] Joe Quesada, after I told him my planned story for Riri, speaks not only to the soul of the character but to the Iron Man franchise as a whole. Tony first put on the armor to save his heart. Riri puts it on for different reasons altogether but still heart-related. When people see her story, you’ll be amazed at how simple and brilliant Joe’s suggestion was.”

We don’t even need to see her story to know how great the name is — but we can’t wait to read it. Riri, who actually builds an Iron Man suit as a 15-year-old MIT student (#goals) will officially take on the moniker of Ironheart — and take over for Tony Stark — in Invincible Iron Man #1, which is written by Bendis, with art by Stefano Caselli.

We’re also excited that Ironheart is among Marvel’s most diverse group of young heroes yet, which includes a Muslim Ms. Marvel, a Black Captain America, and a female Avengers team among others — and, hopefully, many more to come!
