‘The New Edition Story’ Gets BET Premiere Date: First-Look Video

BET’s six-hour event series The New Edition Story about the iconic R&B boy band will air over three nights on January 24-26, the network said today. The biopic follows the group — Ronnie Devoe, Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Mike Bivins, Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill — from their humble beginnings in Boston to global stardom, weathering the highs and lows of controversy, personnel changes, and the cost of fame.

Empire‘s Bryshere Y. Gray, The Wiz Live‘s Elijah Kelley, Luke James, Algee Smith, Keith Powers and Woody McClain star as the adult versions of the killer group, which went on to spawn Bel B . Wood Harris, Michael Rapaport, Faizon Love, La La Anthony, Yvette Nicole Brown and Monica Calhoun are among the co-stars.

Chris Robinson directed and Abdul Williams penned the script for the series, which is executive produced by Jesse Collins for JCE Films. New Edition’s longtime manager Brooke Payne co-produced along with all six members of the group.
