Edison Chen's brand accused of plagiarism

4 Mar – Edison Chen's fashion brand CLOT has recently pulled its new tee designs after being accused of plagiarism.

As reported on Mingpao, the issue sparked last week, when two tattoo artists by the name of Stu Pagdin and "Luke Tattoo" went online and claimed that the designs printed on CLOT's new collection of tees were copied from their own tattoo designs.

They also shared several shots of their designs and compared it to the tees, proving that they were indeed similar images.

"A creator should not be treated like this. You can't steal other people's efforts to make profits. You are welcome to share this post," wrote Luke.

On 28 February, CLOT released a statement of apology, saying that the images printed came from their previous "Random Internet Fan Tee" project, where they encouraged fans to create the images for them. The brand then decided to use the patterns provided by a fan on Instagram.

"We regret that we were unable to investigate properly, to ascertain the original owner of the work. After knowing that the fan (who submitted the designs) had used other people's works to establish a relationship with CLOT, we felt very surprised and indignant. We hope to use this chance to extend our heartfelt apologies to the artist who was plagiarised," the statement read.

The brand added that it has already removed all related tees from online and physical stores, and destroyed what's left. It has also actively communicated with the two artists and at the same time, suspend cooperation with the previous submitter with a possibility of legal action.
