Edge of Tomorrow 2 may be called…

For all its marketing mishaps and disappointing box office performance, there’s little doubt that Edge of Tomorrow (see our review) was an excellent movie. In fact, we at Geek Crusade would go so far as to say that it’s one of the all-time great sci-fi movies.

Which is why it’s heartening to hear that director Doug Liman may be getting a little more control over the production this time round.

Liman, who recently collaborated with Tom Cruise again on American Made (see our review), told Yahoo Entertainment that he lost an “epic war” with Warner Bros over the title of the first movie. Liman had wanted to call it Live Die Repeat – a phrase which was used on some movie posters – but was overruled.

Here’s Liman’s ideas for the title of Edge of Tomorrow 2:

“Im hoping to rebrand it fully as Live Die Repeat, and the sequel will be inspired from that, whether it’s Live Die Repeat and Repeat or something else. Tom and I make movies for the long term, and I really think about getting the title settled for posterity.

At one point, the studio asked, Does he need to repeat the day? Can’t he just fight the aliens? I was like, If you want me to direct it, he’s gotta repeat the day.”

All we can say to Warners is: let Doug Liman do what he wants. After all, he’s already made one epic sci-fi movie for you.
