Ed Sheeran Rocked the New Blancpain x Swatch Dive Watch While Crashing a Wedding

Ed Sheeran knows how to crash a wedding in style.

The British singer-songwriter recently made a surprise appearance at a ceremony in Las Vegas with Swatch and Blancpain’s newly released dive watch on his wrist.

In a video posted to Sheeran’s Instagram on Monday, the “Shape of You” singer can be seen serenading an unsuspecting couple as they prepare to say “I do” in one of the city’s chapels. He plays a live acoustic rendition of his new song “Magical,” which will be released on his album Autumn Variations later this month. He also appears to have signed their marriage certificate as a witness. His timepiece might’ve been the most remarkable thing about the whole stunt, though.

The watch is one of five new references that were released last Thursday by the two aforementioned horological heavyweights. The quintet is based on Blancpain’s iconic Fifty Fathoms dive watch. Originally released in the 1950s, this legendary model was developed after Blancpain’s then-CEO Jean-Jacques Fiechter had a near-death experience while diving off the coast of France and realized the importance of a reliable dive watch. The Fifty Fathoms has been consistently reimagined over the years, but the latest iterations still feel fresh and modern.

The newcomers were each inspired by one of the world’s five oceans. Sheeran’s piece pays homage to the Atlantic and showcases the extraordinary hues of the Glaucus Atlanticus, a.k.a. the blue dragon. This aquatic animal, which can be found drifting on the surface of the Atlantic, has also been digitally printed on Swatch’s signature SISTEM51 mechanical movement. Other highlights of the new Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms include superior water resistance up to 91 meters (300 feet), outstanding legibility in the dark, and scratch-proof bio-sourced glass. The glass isn’t the green element, either. The NATO strap is made from recycled fishing nets. In addition, the bioceramic material that is used for the case, bezel, pin buckle, and loops is a unique blend of two-thirds ceramic and one-third bio-sourced material derived from castor oil.

To top it off, each model features five inspirational inscriptions on the caseback: Passion for Diving, Licence to Explore, Ocean Breath, Protect What You Love, and Immerse Yourself. No doubt a lyricist like Sheeran would appreciate such poignant words.

The Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms is priced at $400 and will be available beginning September 9 at selected Swatch stores worldwide.
