Ed Sheeran and John Mayer Just Rocked Matching Spider-Man Royal Oaks While Performing Together
John Mayer’s and Ed Sheeran’s Spidey-Senses must have been tingling.
The two musicians teamed up for a benefit concert earlier this week, and both rocked an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak featuring Spider-Man, GQ reported on Thursday. At a gig on Tuesday night for Mayer’s Heart and Armor Foundation—where the duo collabed on Mayer’s “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” and a cover of Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’”—the two broke out their limited-edition timepieces, which were released earlier this year in a run of just 250 for $215,000 each.

Mayer and Sheeran are both documented watch collectors, so it’s no surprise that they both got their hands on the superhero-themed AP. The Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon features a 42 mm titanium case with a black ceramic bezel and crown. Inside, a stripped-down Calibre 2974 movement allows Spider-Man to look like he’s flying through the watch.
That sort of detail wasn’t easy to achieve: Audemars Piguet said it took at least 50 hours of work to create each character on the dial, with the silhouette cut from a block of white gold and the suit laser-engraved to give it texture. Along with the technical details, the watch includes glow-in-the-dark hands and numerals, a transparent caseback, and interchangeable straps.
“For this second collaboration with Marvel, we want to pay tribute to Spider-Man, one of the most popular Super Heroes in the Marvel universe, who is aware that with great power comes great responsibility,” AP CEO Francois-Henry Bennahmias said in a statement when the model was released. (The brand had previously created a Black Panther watch, which was also beloved by celebs: LeBron James sported the timepiece courtside after it was debuted in 2021.)
GQ noted opinions on the Spider-Man Royal Oak are split, but the model truly is a piece of art. Mayer—who owns many AP watches and works with the Swiss watchmaker despite not being a brand ambassador—seems to agree. As does Sheeran, who has shown off a similarly impressive watch collection over the years.
Thanks to their shared appreciation for the watch, the two longtime friends took twinning to a whole new—and horological—level.
