Ebby Yus honoured with an honorary doctorate of martial arts
12 Sep - Ebby Yus still could not believe that he is now the holder of an Honorary Doctorate of Martial Arts.
The actor, who accepted the honour from the World Academy of Silat on 8 September, stated that he was hesitant about accepting it at first, thinking he didn't do much and that his martial arts ability is not up to the level for him to receive such an accolade.
"But my friend, Ustaz Dr Mohd Ashraf Suarin called and asked me later why I refused. He said that they contacted him to get me. Ustaz revealed the reason why I was selected, so from there, I contacted the rep for the organiser and asked them. He replied that I had been shortlisted by the Senate Council of the World Academy of Silat at the Senate meeting on 12 January 2024," he said.
Ebby, real name Muhammad Yunus Abdul Rashid, stated that he was told that he was selected for promoting silat via the TV and film industry. The actor is known to have dabbled in silat since he was in primary school, particularly in the Seni Silat Gayong.
"I admit that I did choreograph silat for TV and movies," he said. "I never expected to be awarded as I was just doing my job. But since they have decided to honour me, it would be inappropriate for me to decline it. This is also a kind of appreciation for the work I have done."
