Dunkin' Changed Their Lids & Fans Are Heartbroken: 'I'm Literally Still Traumatized'

Dunkin' customers (myself included) (and probably Ben Affleck, too) are up in arms after the coffee giant reportedly switched up the lids for its iced beverages. A month ago, in the Dunkin' Reddit thread, users slammed the chain for the "awful" new cup design. We're all collectively crying into our iced coffees.

Some locations have seemingly swapped out the lids as recently as just a few weeks ago, and it appears to have been a slow rollout. Back in July, one customer took to the internet to discuss the lid change, which at the time they hoped was "temporary."

"These new lids are terrible. They fall off, break, and leak," the anonymous poster wrote. Several people responded that their store location only used these lids "for drinks that add cold foam" or when they "[run] out of regular lids."

However, others said that they were told the new design was "permanent." Now, that looks to be true. Complaints have continued as the old lids have become increasingly hard to find.

"I had my cold brew on my side cup holder and the entire lid popped off and spilled all over the carpet," a Redditer wrote. "I'm literally still traumatized from it and trying to clean up the smell."

According to customers, the design appears to be "just an open hole" with "no tab to pull." Some have also complained that the lids pop off entirely "at the slightest movement" and "don't stay on." Although one person said that they don't like using straws and therefore like the new tops, another argued that they "missed" the point.

"I don't want to use straws either, I just want a damn lid that functions," they shot back. "Do you not have problems with these lids? I've gotten them twice and neither time did they work like they're supposed to."

One patron even said they're difficult to put on and so flimsy that it can cause the cup to "explode" in the process.

"The cup caves in while we're trying to put on the lip because instead of snapping on it just puts more pressure there and suddenly your coffee is all over the drink making counter," they explained. "This usually happens with small cups the most because of their size but since getting these new lids, it happens with every size more... Hot lids are weirdly jagged too. I've cut my lip on one of those because of the poor quality."
