"Dune" gets a TV series that will co-exist with the upcoming movie

11 Jun – The star-studded "Dune" reboot set for November next year is still in the works and already it is branching out to the small screen.
The Hollywood Reporter brought word that WarnerMedia's upcoming yet-to-be-named streaming service has given a straight-to-series order for "Dune: The Sisterhood".
As the title states, the TV series, which will co-exist with the movie, will be based on the book of the same name that is set in the same universe as Frank Herbert's "Dune" series. It follows a mysterious order of women known as the Bene Gesserit.
With abilities given by their mastery of the body and the mind, the Bene Gesserit expertly weave through the feudal politics and intrigue of The Imperium. They pursue plans of their own that will ultimately lead them to the enigmatic planet Arrakis, otherwise known as Dune to its inhabitants.
Denis Villeneuve, who wrote, produced and is directing the movie reboot, will be helming the pilot.
The series, from Legendary Television, will be penned by Jon Spaihts, who is also executive producing along with Villeneuve as well as Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert for the Frank Herbert estate.

No cast has been announced so it is unknown whether anyone from the movie's cast, which includes Timothee Chalamet as the lead, Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac and David Dastmalchian, will be making an appearance.
Aside from the upcoming movie and TV series, Legendary's plans for its "Dune" franchise include comic book series, video games and digital content packages.
There's no word yet when the TV series will air but considering that WarnerMedia's streaming service will only launch in beta later this year, it could be expected to hit the small screen by next year.
The "Dune" book series started with the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, who wrote six of the books before his passing in 1986. The rest of the books, there are 20 in total now for the series, are written by his son Brian and sci-fi author Kevin J. Anderson.
