Dua Lipa Makes Her Cannes Debut in a Backless Cutout Gown

Dua Lipa gave a stunning example of how to have fun with the black tie dress code.

The pop star made her first red-carpet appearance at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival Friday night, where she attended the premiere of Omar La Fraise (The King of Algiers) alongside her boyfriend, director Romain Gavras. The pair made a very loved-up couple debut, showing their chemistry as they held hands and gazed into each other's eyes.

For the occasion, the "Levitating" singer embraced her edgier side in a black one-shouldered column gown by Celine, which featured a thigh-high slit, asymmetrical straps framing the open back, and three diagonal cutouts across the chest and torso, gathering at the right hip. She added black strappy heels, dangling diamond earrings, and a matching bracelet by Tiffany & Co. Her hair was styled in a bun with her long curtain bangs framing her face, paired with a glittering smoky eye and nude lip.

Meanwhile, Gavras wore a classic black suit with a white shirt and long black tie.

Lipa and Gavras were first linked in February, a little over a year after Dua's break up with longtime boyfriend Anwar Hadid. The singer has been briefly linked to Trevor Noah and rapper Jack Harlow, but the director, who's best known for his work on music videos including M.I.A.'s "Bad Girls," appears to be her first serious romance.

In addition to the film festival, the "Love Again" singer is in Cannes for the launch of her new Versace collection. The longtime Versace announced her collaboration earlier this month, alongside a black and white photo with Donatella.

"I am absolutely thrilled to have co-designed the women's 'La Vacanza' collection for Versace with Donatella. She and I have formed such a strong bond over the years, and I'm so grateful for the support I’ve received from her and the whole team since the very beginning of my career," Lipa wrote. "For her to give me the honor of co-designing this collection and letting all my summer inspirations go wild has been a dream. I am so very proud of this collection and cannot wait to debut it in Cannes."
