Donnie Yen aggravated old injury playing Crippled Ho

22 Sep - Hong Kong actor Donnie Yen has done lots of martial arts movies, but it was his role as infamous '70s criminal Crippled Ho that caused him a trip to the hospital.

As reported on Mingpao, the actor, who spoke to the media about his new movie, "Chasing the Dragon" recently, shared that he spent a lot of time researching the role prior to filming - from hiring a dialect coach to teach him how to speak with a Chouzhou accent, to rehearsing his walk that mimics the criminal known for his limp.

"My toes are already hurt from previous filming injuries over the years. But since I had to walk with a limp in those [70s-styled] shoes, by the end of the shoot, I was in so much pain that I couldn't walk," he said.

Donnie stated that he immediately went to see a doctor about his situation after the shoot, and had to undergo surgery after aggravating an old injury.

"I really had to use a cane for four months after doing the movie," he added.
