Don Don Donki lands at Jewel Changi Airport with 100+ halal products & new dining hall

To absolutely no one’s surprise (at this point), Don Don Donki has yet again opened a new outlet located at Jewel Changi Airport on 20 Dec 2022. Just a month and 3 days ago, Don Don Donki opened its 14th outlet at Jurong Point.

Though I have barely recovered from IJS (Irritable Jingle Syndrome), I was all game to give the new Don Don Donki outlet a visit as the 15th outlet will feature a dining hall, something I was hoping for after noticing the potential of it when its Jurong Point outlet launched the Sen Sen Sushi, a new made-to-order sushi corner. That’s not all, it will also have over 100 halal Japanese products! Christmas really came early for me.

Being located just a walk away from the airport, it’s no wonder that Don Don Donki opted for an airport-themed outlet. However, you probably wouldn’t notice it, as the designs and props that were used are sparse and were a far cry from the effort seen in their jungle-themed outlet at Northpoint City.

The halal products promised that initially got me excited were somewhat of a letdown. Yes, they were halal, but they were also items you could easily get in your mama shop such U.F.O instant noodles, YOU-C1000 orange and lemon drinks and Pocky snacks.

Apart from that, it was the usual Don Don Donki affair. I managed to try the more unique halal items such as the Konjyaku Jelly Pouch Grape (S$4.50) and Mochikon Brown Sugar (S$3.90). I felt that the jelly drink was overly concentrated and had a paltry portion whilst the mochi snack lacked the signature chewy texture. I was hoping for halal pre-packaged bento sets, but oh well.

At least the much-touted dining hall did better on its promise. It currently has 2 stalls operational: the Senraku Deli and Fried Octopus Ball.

The Senraku Deli serves dishes such as Beef Sukiyaki (S$6.90), Grilled Saba Miso Yaki (S$5.90) and Aji Fry (S$3.90). They also have cold dishes like Hijiki (S$2.90), Onsen Egg (S$2.90) and Potato Salad (S$2.90). Meanwhile, the Fried Octopus Ball serves both the Wagyukushi (S$4.90) and Original Sauce (S$5.80).

Returning from the Jurong Point outlet are the Sen Sen Sushi and the Sake Bar. However, if you’re there for a grab-and-go food packet, the latest outlet still provides such items though limited in variety. When I visited, they were Hokkaido Beef Karubi Jyu (S$11.90), Mega Bento Saba & Nanban Chicken (S$12.90), Tender Chicken Karaage (S$5.90) and Yakitori Skewers (S$7.90).

Surprisingly, this was the first time I noticed a Don Don Donki grand opening with a subdued crowd even as I arrived at 2pm and at an international space to boot. Maybe we’re all don don done with the back-to-back outlet openings— who knows?
