Doja Cat Has Her Sights Set on Hollywood
Doja Cat is a certified pop star, rapper, fashion maven, Grammy-winning musician—and actor?
Speaking with rap radio legend Angie Martinez for Harper’s Bazaar’s September 2023 cover story, the artist opens up about what she envisions next for her generation-defining career.
“There are other kinds of projects I want to branch out into. I want to make clothing, dabble in makeup. I want to explore acting,” she says.
“Do you envision acting becoming a big part of your career?” Martinez asks.
“I would love to do movies that I believe in,” Doja answers. “I would have to stop the music for a minute. But I would be down to immerse myself in acting for a certain period of time. I love comedies and action films. I want to learn martial arts and be in a film like John Wick.”
She also reveals that she could be interested in pursuing stand-up comedy.
When asked if it’s “true that [she] wants to do stand-up,” Doja says: “It’s something I’ve definitely considered. I actually went onstage recently with Craig Robinson. He’ll get on a piano and just play songs, but he’ll do it in his own Craig Robinson, funny-ass way. I went up onstage and sang with him at a comedy club. It was super low-key. I was there with one of my boyfriends.”
Doja previously talked about her acting ambitions in a 2022 interview with Elle. “I’d love to act. I’d love to be in movies. That’s a massive want for me,” she said at the time.
