SINGAPORE — A pet dog managed to jump over its home's fence and wander about a kilometre away, ending up at Buona Vista MRT station on Sunday morning (2 April).

Two SMRT staff members saw the dog, a 7-year-old Rhodesian ridgeback named Apollo, and brought him to their office to be cared for - even though dogs are generally not allowed in MRT stations.

The staff members then managed to contact Apollo's owner, Karthik Nathan, after retrieving Karthik's phone number from Apollo's collar tag.

Both were reunited about 20 minutes later and returned home to Chip Bee Gardens in Holland Village.

Karthik's guess is that Apollo might have been scared out of the house due to the loud thunder and rain that morning.

The dog owner put up a Facebook post on Sunday night, lauding the two SMRT staff members Syahril and Archana for their kindness. He also mentioned that he had not closed his door properly, and that gave Apollo the opportunity to escape.

Positive response from SMRT and netizens

SMRT replied to Karthik's Facebook post on Monday morning, with positive comments about the incident.

"Thanks for letting us know that you found Apollo safe and sound! We're happy that our staff could assist you in locating him, and we appreciate your note of thanks," it wrote in the post.

SMRT attached a feedback link for Karthik to share a note of appreciation.

Comments have flooded the post with some netizens claiming that this was not Apollo's first escape. Others were grateful for reading a feel-good story with a positive ending.

"Thanks for sharing! This piece of story brings so much good vibes," shared a Facebook commenter.
