'Dog the Bounty Hunter' Star Beth Chapman on How Cancer Changed Her Outlook on Parenting
Dog the Bounty Hunter star Beth Chapman announced her cancer had returned in November 2018.
She and her husband Duane "Dog" Chapman are staying strong as she battles her illness.
The couple opened up about their journey to a crowd at The Source Church in May.
Dog the Bounty Hunter star Beth Chapman and her husband Duane “Dog” Chapman are sharing messages of strength amid her battle with cancer.
Beth and Duane announced in November 2018 that she was diagnosed with cancer once again. But the TV personality and her husband continue to remain positive, and both recently shared emotional insights into their journey during their appearance at The Source Church in May.
Duane introduced Beth with a sweet speech that was equal parts lighthearted and emotional. Duane got tearful multiple times while praising his wife, recalling a recent “hard one” they had together as well as an operation she had a year ago.
“The doctor said she may not make it,” he said. “After 11 hours I went to the doctor and said, ‘Well is she okay?’ He goes, ‘I don’t know.’ She was in recovery, this hospital room that was terrible. And I went in there and I said ‘We have faith. I’m sure if she was gonna pass away, God would have told me, but he told me she was gonna live.’
But she surprised them both when she responded with a sense of humor. “I went into the bed and I had a blank piece of paper and I laid it on her chest, and I said ‘Honey, sign that.’ And she made this hand gesture to me, and the doctor said ‘She’s alive!’”
He continued while wiping away tears, “My comforter besides God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost is my honey. I’m an outlaw, pure blood outlaw, and she has kept me in the grace of God.”
Beth then took the stage to recount her challenges throughout life, including her struggles growing up and the journey of becoming a “bonus” parent to Duane’s children. She also added how her viewpoint of being a mother changed after her diagnosis.
“Being a mom is such a serious role, that I didn’t really realize how serious it was until I got sick,” she said. “Once that happens, you start to become painfully aware of how are they gonna make it? Are they gonna make it? Are they strong enough to make it? What can I leave them with? What can I do right now to make sure that they make it?”

She continued, “I will say that I have had an extremely wonderful life. I went to jail, I lost my kid, all those things led me down this wonderful path of Duane ‘Dog’ Chapman. And being Mrs. Dog has been my greatest role.”
And regardless of what life throws at her, Beth and Duane aren’t giving up any time soon.
“When my mess became a message to so many people around this country, I became a threat to the devil’s kingdom,” she said. “And when you do God’s work, you become the target and he throws everything he’s got at you. Everything. I battled my way, all the way to this pulpit this week. You’ll tune into the show someday, and you’ll see what we went through to get here.”
