Disney Channel Orders Boy With Talking Hand Comedy Pilot ‘Right Hand Guy’

Disney Channel has given a pilot green light to Right Hand Guy, a high-concept comedy from Zach Stone is Gonna Be Famous co-creator Dan Lagana.

The show stars 12-year-old Steele Stebbins (Vacation, NBC’s Heartbeat) as Jeff and chronicles his adventures with his best friend Katie and his other best friend — his suddenly sentient, talking hand. Despite being attached to Jeff’s body, his right hand has a mind and personality of its own.

“Dan is that rare writer who combines absurdist, laugh-out-loud comedy with endearing, emotional resonance,” said Jonas Agin, VP, Original Series, Disney Channel and Disney XD. “His project reflects our continuing commitment to truly growing the Disney Channel brand.

Written and executive produced by Lagana, who also served as showrunner on Hulu’s Deadbeat, Right Hand Guy will be directed by Cody Blue Snider (Fool’s Day). The pilot is scheduled to begin production this September in Los Angeles in consideration for a 2017 series on Disney Channel.

This year Disney Channel has introduced two new comedy series, Stuck In the Middle, which has been renewed for a second season, and Bizaardvark, which debuted a month ago.

Stebbins is repped by Abrams Artists Agency and Major Minors Management.
