Did John Travolta Mistake This ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Alum for Taylor Swift?

Having her MTV VMAs win nearly taken away from her was one of the defining moments in Taylor Swift’s career 10 years ago, and on Monday night it seemed like history was about to repeat itself.

Presenting Swift with the award for Video of the Year for her single “You Need to Calm Down,” John Travolta appeared to nearly offer the statue to a former “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star instead of the pop star herself on Monday night.

Jade Jolie (pictured above, left), a drag queen who competed on the fifth season of the Viacom show, had a brief cameo in the “You Need to Calm Down” video in full Taylor Swift drag and joined the pop star on stage when the statue was awarded. MTV’s cameras caught what appeared to be a moment where Travolta tried to hand her the statue shortly after she arrived on stage. Watch video of the moment below.

The moment came shortly after Travolta let a few expletives fly on air, creating an awkward moment for his co-presenter Queen Latifah and MTV. Refusing to announce the winner in the category, Travolta said he always “pronounces s— wrong” and didn’t want to “f— it up.”

Travolta, of course, has a history with live awards show flubs. In 2014, he famously flubbed his introduction of “Frozen” star Idina Menzel at the Oscars, referring to her as “Adele Dazeem.”
