Dick Lee’s ‘Wonder Boy’ Selected as Opening Film at Fukuoka International Film Festival (FIFF) 2017!

Local movie ‘Wonder Boy’《音为爱》, directed Daniel Yam and Dick Lee himself, will be making an international premiere at the Fukuoka International Film Festival (FIFF) this September in Japan.
The autobiographical, coming-of-age film is inspired by Lee’s three years of his teenage life as an aspiring teenage musician, up to the release of his debut album in 1974.
Mr. Chang Long Jong, CEO of mm2 Asia Ltd. says, “we are very honoured that Wonder Boy has been selected as the opening film for this prestigious festival. This recognition is the testimony of the talent, passion, and dedication of the people behind the making of the film. We look forward to sharing Dick Lee’s inspiring story and his unique brand of Singaporean music with the audiences in Japan.”
Both Mr. Dick Lee and Mr. Daniel Yam will be attending FIFF’s opening ceremony and red carpet event held at Sunplaza Stage in Canal City Hakata, Fukuoka, Japan.

“Many people who know of me are not aware of how I started in my career, in the early Seventies in Singapore”, says Mr. Dick Lee.
He recounts, “As a teenager who wanted to make music, original music, the environment was rather unfriendly. Wonder Boy is about the obstacles I encountered as an aspiring singer/songwriter, and also hints at my first attempts at finding my identity through my music as a Singaporean.”

‘WONDER BOY’《音为爱》follows the story of 16-year-old Richard (Benjamin Kheng), an aspiring musician and the school's social outcast, as he joins a singing group - The Wonder Boys - and embarks on his coming-of-age journey through youthful ambition, friendships and first love, all the while trying to have his music heard.
