Speaking during a memorial service held on Saturday (25th March), Dan Aykroyd gave an emotional eulogy to Carrie Fisher, and it’ll bring a tear to your eye.

It was announced that a special memorial service was to be held to honor the lives of Carrie Fisher and her mother, Hollywood legend Debbie Reynolds. The memorial, which was held on Saturday, was live streamed, and Todd Fisher gave a moving speech, as well as singer songwriter James Blunt submitting an original song written for the occasion. The day also saw Mark Hamill share a beautiful tribute to his on-screen sister on social media.

Also speaking during the memorial service was Carrie Fisher’s one-time partner and friend Dan Aykroyd.

In an emotional tribute, Aykroyd told how he once saved Carrie Fisher’s life after she nearly choked on a Brussels sprout.

The Ghostbusters actor also spoke about how, while he was dating Fisher, she decided that wanted to be with musician Paul Simon, whom she later ended up marrying.

“She had long conversations on the phone in my presence with Paul Simon, with whom she was attempting to reconcile at the time of my relationship with her,” Aykroyd recalled. Here I found myself in love with a woman who was returning to a former intimate, and might I say a much better choice. But a woman who confided deeply in me and who valued my counsel.”

Continuing, Aykroyd spoke about how, despite ultimately not choosing him romantically, Fisher and his relationship was special.

“Throughout the process of her decision to not marry me and wed another, the reward for my unwavering support in whatever decision she wanted to do was the time I had with her as a trusted friend and fellow night hawk,”

he said.

Meanwhile, Carrie Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd and her dog, Gary, were absent from Saturday’s service.

“This is emotional. It can tear your heart out,” Todd Fisher said about his niece’s decision not to attend. “We’re all feeling it. And try being 24 and feeling it.”

Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds were laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with Reynolds being buried alongside some of Fisher’s ashes.
