Cya Liu's dream of winning HKFA Best Actress comes true
19 Jul – Cya Liu's dream of winning at the Hong Kong Film Awards came true as she bested other worthy contenders to clinch the Best Actress accolade.
On 17 July, following her win at the prestigious event for her performance in "Limbo", the actress took to social media, and expressed, "The HKFA ended perfectly. Thank you for the recognition. It is an honour to win Best Actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards."
Prior to that, when speaking to the media backstage at the ceremony, Cya stated that she is thankful for the team of "Limbo", that she wouldn't have encountered such a great character to play if not for the movie.
She also thanked her character in the film, Wang Tao, saying, "Without her, I wouldn't have won the award. The HKFA has paved the way for me and I hope there will be more opportunities in the future."
In a previous interview, Cya admitted that she has high hopes of winning the Best Actress category, seeing that winning would help her get recognised and in turn help her get more jobs.
"I came to Beijing alone when I was 18 to get opportunities and waited for seven years without any job. I nearly returned to Hunan, but was lucky to get "So Young". But it took four more years before the film came out, and I had to make small budget films to make ends meet. I nearly quit again. But I persisted," she said.
