Cultural Extravaganza 2024: Celebrating our distinctive Chinese Singaporean culture
Cultural Extravaganza 2024, organised by the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC), will return from 8 May to 30 Jun for its 7th edition. This year’s theme is “(Re)presenting Our SINGAPO人 Treasures”, celebrating the Chinese Singaporean identity.
The festival was first held in 2017, showcasing the crossovers between disciplines, cultures and generations. Cultural Extravaganza 2024 presents original productions and creative re-interpretations. 10 programmes will be put up by award-winning artistes and arts groups.
You’ll have to pay a fee for most of the programmes. Here are some sneak peeks.
A Choral Extravaganza (8 & 9 Jun, SCCC Recital Studio, Level 6)
If you like listening to Chinese classical music, this will be your cup of tea. A Choral Extravaganza showcases the classical art of choral singing by re-interpreting classics.
The choir, who will be singing in Mandarin, comprises Chordinate Singers, Nanyang Hakka Federation Choir, Singapore Choral Artists, Southern Arts Society, and The Vocal Consort.
A standard ticket is priced at S$20 (excluding the booking fee). PAssion Card, NTUC, merewards, SAFRA and HomeTeam NS members enjoy 20% off the price of a ticket.
Essentially Macbeth (15 & 16 Jun, SCCC Auditorium, Level 9)
Prefer English plays to Chinese ones? Catch Essentially Macbeth at the Cultural Extravaganza 2024. While the actors speak in Mandarin, there are English subtitles.
Essentially Macbeth tells the story of a group of ex-drama club members coming together to stage a play (no prizes for guessing what it is!) to reignite their passion for the arts.
Directed by Judy Ngo, with an original score composed by Phang Kok Jun and conducted by Moses Gay, the play is a partnership between the National University of Singapore (NUS) Chinese Drama and the NUS Chinese Orchestra.

Treasures of Our Schools: From Cheong Soo Pieng to Lim Tze Peng (31 May – 30 Jun, SCCC Multi-Purpose Hall, Level 7)

Treasures of Our Schools: From Cheong Soo Pieng to Lim Tze Peng is a free public exhibition that spotlights the lesser-known works of renowned artists. These names include Chen Wen Hsi, Liu Kang, and Ho Ho Ying, distinguished alumni and/or teachers of Special Assistance Plan schools, such as Hwa Chong Institution and Nanyang Girls’ High School.
It also includes works by overseas artists such as Liu Haisu, who had visited the schools.
