Costco Finally Confirmed Major Food Court Rumor
Is the Costco food court switching to Coca-Cola products? The rumor that locations would switch away from Pepsi has been swirling around social media for weeks, but the warehouse superstore has been quiet on the subject—until now.
On January 23, the company held its annual shareholders meeting, and CEO Ron Vachris was asked about the food court beverage rumors. His reply? “We will be converting our food court fountain business back over to Coca-Cola.”
Longtime Costco members will recall that Coke products used to be a food court staple. The company switched to Pepsi in 2013. According to CNN, "Costco solicits bids from companies for its fountain drink business at food courts, and Pepsi has been awarded the fountain soda contract since 2013. The deal is not just for the machines and syrup in the sodas, but cups, straws and other products."
Vachris did not comment on the timing of the switch, or what other changes may come along with the swap to Coke products, but we're hoping for better cups and lids. Pepsi drinkers are bound to be disappointed, but Coke fans on Reddit are overjoyed with the news, writing "Been waiting a long time for this! Best news ever!!! WOOHOO!!!🙌🏼" Another said, "Sorry but I’m not a Pepsi fan, and can’t wait to get that sweet Diet Coke at the fountains again."
Costco has been switching things up at the food court lately by bringing in cookies and new sandwiches. We'll be keeping our fingers crossed that the hot dog combo stays at $1.50.
