Converse partnered with Rit Dye to sell do-it-yourself project kits to customers, allowing them to add their own colorful flair to their Chucks.

The all-in-one kit, created in collaboration with the fabric dye company, includes primary color dyes in shades of lemon yellow, cherry red and aquamarine. The kit also includes gloves, a squeeze bottle, a sponge brush, masking tape and stickers to shield the signature Converse sole and ankle patch from the dye.

As noted by Converse, the popular canvas sneakers have long served as a medium for individuals to showcase their creativity and personality; social media has only catapulted that, with recent trends showing Converse fans dyeing their shoes different colors at home. Converse decided to facilitate the process by offering their own dye kit to customers.

Converse’s new DIY initiative aligns with the brand’s “commitment to championing and fostering creative self-expression by empowering individuality and giving customers tools and choices in how to customize their shoes.”

The dye kits sell for $25.00 and can be found online at; the kits are sold separately from the shoes. Converse recommends Optical White All Stars to achieve the best results.

In addition to the dye kits, customers can design their own sneakers through the Converse By You customization, which allows them to select embroidery, patches and laces for their Chucks.

The announcement of the Rit Dye collaboration comes on the heels of layoffs at Converse as they restructure the corporation.

With the first iteration of the shoe releasing in 1909, Converse has been a fixture in the world of modern fashion for more than 100 years. The affordable sneakers are loved across generations and social groups, with average suburban high schoolers, professional athletes and celebrities alike slipping on a pair for a casual but fashionable look.
