‘Command And Control’ Trailer: Inside One Of The Cold War’s Tensest Moments – TCA
At today’s TCA panel on the American Experience documentary Command and Control — a look at the hidden history of a terrifying 1980 nuclear accident at a Titan II missile complex in Damascus, AR — participants stressed that the global situation regarding nuclear weapons remains out of control. As part of the presentation, the official trailer was release; watch it above in all its tense, Cold War-paranoia glory.
Said producer/director/co-writer Robert Kenner (Food Inc.): “[The U.S. has] 7,000 weapons in our arsenal. There are 15,000 worldwide. I have to say, after making this film, I don’t feel safer knowing we have 7,000 weapons.” He added that “the genie is out of the bottle, and this is a big genie.” The panel also included Greg Devlin, senior airman on Propellant Transfer System Team B; David Powell, then a 21-year-old Titan II repairman; and series executive producer Mark Samels.
Based on the nonfiction book by Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Command and Control had its world premiere during the Tribeca Film Festival in April. The film will be released theatrically in the fall, followed by its television premiere on PBS in winter 2017.
