Collina Strada Fall 2024 Is All About Strong Women Looking Swole

In the world of Collina Strada, unpredictable quirkiness reigns supreme.

For the brand's Fall 2023 presentation, Creative Director Hillary Taymour created her own (prosthetic) animal kingdom; last season, the brand embraced madness as models walked in tattered tops and unsettling smiles.

For Fall 2024, Taymour took us to the gym — with an off-kilter, high-fashion treatment. The show took place on Friday in a downstairs venue at Rockefeller Center, surrounded by bare, black pillars and nothing but a psychedelic, abstract-print video playing overhead. (It felt like entering a stripped-down weight room while on acid.)

Like every season, there was a purpose behind Taymour's bodybuilding-tinged collection, inspired by "strong women [and] feminine power," she told Fashionista. "Through the chaos in the storm and the craziness in this world, I feel like feminine power is the only thing that's going to be able to get us through."

Ruffle-embellished pants, an asymmetric midi dress and a gathered mini number kicked off the show. Offering a literal interpretation of getting swole, standout pieces included tops with bubble sleeves mirroring exaggerated muscles.

"With women constantly passed over for power positions, the femme body and mind has long been shaped by the imagination of men," the show notes read. "It's about time we re-sculpted that meat-headed vision into something closer to the reality of femininity — something altogether sweatier yet more refined."

Models got into character as they rushed down the catwalk with their hands clenched and muscles defined. Some even carried dumbbells to accessorize their looks (though in true Collina Strada fashion, these weights had squash — as in the actual gourd — on either end).

Of course, the collection also includes gorgeous gowns, including a grey ruched maxi dress that closed out the collection. At the end of the day, it was quintessential Collina Strada: fun, weird and worth a double-take.
