Christian Siriano RTW Fall 2024: Is There Glamour in Space?
Could there be glamour in space? It is a fantastical question that Christian Siriano was poised to answer with his fall 2024 collection. “If we did have to live in this apocalyptic world,” he said backstage pre show of the theme, “what’s the cocktail? What’s the evening?” A few weeks away from “Dune 2” hitting theaters — potentially the biggest movie blockbuster of 2024 so far — Siriano looked to the Frank Herbert tome and subsequent films as source for his world building.
The first look, a sandy colored cropped jacket with a pronounced boxy shaped shoulder and a handkerchief skirt that swished about, set the mood. His palette blossomed with sunset burgundy hues and dusty oranges on iridescent fabrics — folded, draped and floating with sensual bursts of skin on a section of gowns. “It’s kind of a progression of things that feel wearable and cool, but then into this fantasy world of evening in this desert-like place,” he said. Set against the backdrop of an iconic New York City venue, The Plaza hotel.

Suiting here was sharp, boxy shouldered and skin baring, while a few coatdresses made the case for unexpected and eye-catching event-dressing proportions. He gave a range power dressing ideas that hinged on the ’80s as much as science fiction, with gold foil earrings and hair details topping it off. As he did last season, Siriano showed ideas on a few male-identified models but ideas of gendered dressing remain fluid. “They are on men but could be feminine, could be masculine. I’m having fun with that.”
The glamour went high octane with the final section of of dresses, leaning into embellishments through the lens of protection — soft sheer tulle dotted with sequins or liquid silks with pronounced ruffle trims and feathers.
An award-winning creative and TV star, Siriano knows how to put on a show. “New York Fashion Week has a hard time sometimes taking people out into another realm,” he said, adding that he wants people to feel like they are going to the theater. “I want to take your breath away,” he said. His front row — Leigh Lezark, Aquaria and actresses including Alicia Silverstone, Melanie Lynskey and Sophia Bush — certainly took note.
Still, while the show may have been steeped in fantasy, Siriano will always have real world appeal.
