Chris Evans hangs up Captain America shield for good

Looks like this really is the end of Chris Evans' run as Captain America.

5 Oct – Chris Evans has never hid the fact that he is going to exit the MCU after his contract as Captain America is up, and looks like he's keeping good with that promise based on his latest Twitter update.

"Officially wrapped on "Avengers 4". It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor," Evans tweeted.

"To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful."

Though fans have been expecting this, since talks of him leaving the role have been circulating since the filming of 2015's "Avengers: Age of Ultron", it was still a blow to hear that Cap will no longer be portrayed by the 37-year-old.

News of his expected departure resurfaced earlier this year when the actor told The New York Times, "You want to get off the train before they push you off", as he stated that he has no plans to return to the MCU after "Avengers 4".

Evans was first introduced as the superhero in 2011's "Captain America: The First Avenger". Since then he has been in a total of seven MCU movies, excluding cameo roles and counting next year's "Avengers 4".

With Evans officially hanging up his Captain America shield, it is speculated that another character might step in to fill the role, since in the comics Steve Rogers wasn't the only one who held that superhero title.

Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes and the Falcon/Sam Wilson, played by Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie respectively in the current Marvel movies, have also donned the Captain America suit in the comics.

Well, Cap fans, get ready to say goodbye to Evans' portrayal of the superhero when "Avengers 4" opens in cinemas in 2019.
