Chinatown lights up ahead of Chinese New Year celebrations

A total of 2,188 lanterns are being hung in Chinatown in anticipation of the Year of the Dog come 16 February.

These lanterns, which come in shapes of dogs and pineapples, among others, can be found along Eu Tong Sen Street, South Bridge Road, North Bridge Road and Upper Cross Street.

It took about eight months for the organising committee to prepare for the light-up, collaborating with 37 craftsmen and some students from the Singapore University of Technology and Design.

A dog costume competition and traditional Chinese performances are also included in this year's festivities.

Those interested in participating in the competition may register via the chinatownfestivals.sg website.
