The 'Chicago Fire/Med/P.D.' Crossover Event: Our Wish List

The minute NBC announced a third show in the Chicago franchise, we all knew the three-hour crossover event — complete with hyper-dramatic ads and promos — was inevitable. And, now, it’s upon us. The “#OneChicago” punches start flying tonight with episodes of Chicago Med and Chicago Fire, and concludes Wednesday with Chicago P.D.

By the end of it, we should know whether or not firefighter Christopher Hermann (David Eigenberg) will survive that shocking mid-season finale stabbing. We’ll probably know a bunch of other stuff, too. Here’s what we really hope we see during this three-hour tour.

1. It’s time for some brotherly love between the Halstead boys. Now that Med’s Dr. Will (Nick Gehlfuss) is settled into his position as the chief ER resident and seems to have his head on straight, his P.D. brother could probably use advice. Jay (Jesse Lee Soffer) and partner/lady love, Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush), seem to be pretty fine and steady at the moment, but she’s a complicated woman (#understatement). Surely there’s some wisdom only a big brother can impart over coffee.

2. More Platt, more Mouch, more Plouch, please. Last we saw, Fire’s Mouch (Christian Stolte) enlisted P.D.’s Burgess (Marina Squerciati) to figure out her boss’s ring size, and Platt (Amy Morton) was betting the engaged Burgess that she’d walk down the aisle first. Perhaps an engagement could be the sunny spot on this dramatic adventure?

3. The great meeting of minds. Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) rules the roost on P.D., Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) is the literal and figurative chief of Fire, and Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) is the queen of the ER on Med. Seeing all of them in a room together — arguing passionately on behalf of their respective teams, obvi — would be nothing short of epic.

4. Fight! Fight! Fight! (Colin Donnell) and (Taylor Kinney) are pretty intensely arguing in some of the promos for this crossover. While we don’t condone violence of any kind, we would not complain if this came to actual physical blows. Shirts optional.

5. Hermann. Must. Live. Seriously, the firefighter and owner of Molly’s Bar isn’t just the heart and soul of Chicago Fire — he’s the heart and soul of the entire franchise. We’re getting choked up now just thinking about the possibility of him not making it.

#OneChicago on NBC kicks off at 9 p.m. with Chicago Med, followed by Chicago Fire at 10 p.m. It concludes Wednesday with Chicago P.D. at 10 p.m.
