Chelsia Chen shares struggle with breast cancer

16 Sep - Former singer and Lion-Parkson Foundation Chairperson, Puan Sri Chelsia Chan has released a book detailing her struggles in battling breast cancer titled, "My Cause, My Music".

As reported on Epoch Times, the former singer who is married to Malaysian businessman Tan Sri William Cheng admitted that she was shocked upon being diagnosed with cancer at the end of June last year, but that writing her book helped a lot in calming her down and suppressing negative energy.

Chen stated that her family quickly arranged for her to begin her treatment following the diagnosis. In just four months, she underwent eight chemotherapy sessions and a surgery to remove the cancer.

When talking about her emotional state, Chen said that she was deeply affected in the beginning, but as soon as she begin to adjust and adapt things began to feel much easier.

"The most important thing is not to suppress your feelings and to properly express your emotions. If sufferers conceal their feelings to avoid from worrying their family and friends, it will only increase the emotional burden on themselves," she said.

Chen, who has now recovered, stressed that the treatment is not the only important thing in battling the disease, as one should also change one's mentality and lifestyle.

On the other hand, the former singer also revealed that she sent her book to actor Andy Lau when she first heard about his then hospitalisation, saying that at the time, she intended for her book to motivate him towards recovery.
