Our gem-encrusted flip phones have been ringing and buzzing all day with the news that TikTok girlie Charli D'Amelio has made a major beauty change. And it's high time we answer the call, as the 2000s are coming back in full force this fall, starting off with the super hot eyeliner trend we (sadly) left behind.

Resting in the Y2K graveyard with Juicy Couture tracksuits, Von Dutch trucker hats, and Ed Hardy tees, the waterline eyeliner style has been waiting in the wings for its come back moment just like its counterparts: stretchy comb headbands, baby blue eyeshadow, rhinestone tattoos, and millenial side-parts. Charli, the latest content creator to dabble into the beauty industry with her "Born Dreamer" perfume, has plucked the smoky eyeliner look from obscurity. She's even given the fierce trend a coveted spot on her curated Instagram feed.

On September 3, the youngest D'Amelio sister posted a super cute selfie to show off her makeup and hairdo. She simply captioned the smoldering snapshot trio "bangs," rocking a noughties-inspired baby tee that reads "Rockstars Love Me." Uhm, considering she's dating Landon Barker, the son of Blink-182's Travis Barker (also Kourtney Kardashian's hubby), we consider her sporting this top to be absolutely iconique.

Hairstylist Laura Polko — who has cut and styled the strands of stars like Emma Chamberlain, Dixie D'Amelio, and Gigi Hadid — is behind the '70s-style curtain bangs. The flipped-out fringe reminds us of retro beauty Farrah Fawcett who first popularized the groovy, face-framing look. Polko modernized the style by straightening Charli's long, mid-back-length locks.

As for her girl-next-door, Y2K complexion, MUA Olivia Madorma lays claim to Charli's smoky eyes and mega-blush makeup. Transitioning the sunburnt blush trend we saw this summer for cooler temps, Madorma applied a rosy-pink blush shade to compliment Charli's pink and glossy lip look.

To recreate the beloved Y2K waterline eyeliner trend that we saw the likes of Megan Fox and Kim Kardashian rock back in the day, Charli wore a charcoal black eyeliner on her waterline (aka the inner rim of the eye just above the lower eyelashes). The makeup artist appears to have also smudged the liner under Charli's lower lashes to add to the shadowy effect. Charli also seems to be wearing dark eyeliner on her upper lid, with plenty of mascara on her lashes to complete the look.

Taking a page out of Charli's Y2K wonderland book, we're running to our makeup bags to recreate this look ASAP. Don't know which products to use? Shop our editor's picks (which are super affordable, BTW!) below to nail the waterline eyeliner trend.
