Adam Charlap Hyman and Andre Herrero, founders of Charlap Hyman & Herrero, established their architecture and interior design firm in 2014, just three years after graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design. Since then, they have distinguished themselves in a crowded industry with their recognizable, bold aesthetic that blends reverence to history with the avant-garde.

They’ve tried their hand at a varied assortment of projects ranging from set designs for the Santa Fe Opera’s production of Tristan and Isolde to private homes, including an art-filled Miami Beach apartment with a showstopping shell-encrusted door (featured on the cover of our October 2023 issue), to one in Los Angeles that Herrero designed for his girlfriend and her sister (in our April 2023 issue).

They’ve also added curator as a robust section of their CV, having overseen several major art and design exhibitions at Tina Kim, Nina Johnson, and Winter Street galleries.

Tom Healey, the homeowner of the Miami Beach project, said of the chemistry of the two designers: “What I admire about them is the harmony between their personalities and styles.” Operating on both coasts, with Herrero based in Los Angeles and Charlap Hyman in New York, allows their different perspectives and surroundings to converge, which enriches their work.

Maintaining a professional demeanor while still clearly enjoying themselves, Charlap Hyman and Herrero each bring a playful touch to their projects, blending lightheartedness with precision.
