Character Actors To Be Honored This Weekend At 2nd Annual Carney Awards

Conchata Ferrell, Stephen Tobolowsky, Steve Buscemi, Jonathan Banks, and Gary Cole will be honored this Sunday at the 2nd Annual Carney Awards to shed a light on outstanding character actors. Veteran character actor Dan Hedaya, whose career spans almost 50 years and has one of the most recognizable faces in TV and film, will also be receiving the Chairman’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

The show was named in honor of the late Oscar-winning and six-time Emmy-winning actor Art Carney and started by his son, Brian Carney along with Jim Katz and David Katz. It was something his Dad wished for — to honor other thesps that TV watchers and moviegoers know once they see them but may not remember their names.

Ferrell has been in everything from Two and a Half Men to Erin Brockovich and is very well respected and known by other thespians. Film watchers may remember Tobolowsky as the annoying insurance salesman in Groundhog Day but the actor also has appeared in so many other films and tv shows such as Memento, Glee and Californication. Again, a filmmaker favorite.

Ed Asner, Joe Mantegna, Julie Hagerty, Zane Lasky and Mark Boone, Junior will present while Fred Willard will host. In addition, Grammy-nominated country artist Deana Carter will be performing the In Memoriam tribute.

The Carney Awards is a joint production between The Elvis Duran Group and Radcliffe Road Pictures. Syndicated radio host Elvis Duran, David Katz, Art’s son Brian Carney, and Jim Katz serve as executive producers.

The awards will take place at The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills.
