Channing Tatum turns into a mermaid for new movie

2 Aug – This may sound like one fishy tale but it is true – Channing Tatum is turning into a mermaid!

The "Magic Mike" star is wading into the deep end of the pool and forgoing his legs, sort of, to play a mermaid – merman? – in an upcoming remake of Disney's 1984 romantic comedy, "Splash".

Those who've watched the original movie would remember that it starred Tom Hanks as a man (sans fishtail) who falls for a beautiful mermaid played by Daryl Hannah.

Now, before you go on imagining the 36-year-old buff star turning full lady mode for the remake, do take note that it will be a gender-swap remake, Deadline reported.

So Tatum will be playing the role previously played by Hannah, while his "22 Jump Street" co-star Jillian Bell will take over Hanks' role. The pitch for the remake was reportedly hatched by the 32-year-old actress.

Bell most recently lent her voice to "The Angry Birds Movie" and will be seen next in "Office Christmas Party" and next year's "Fist Fight".

Tatum, who did a singing number in this year's "Hail, Caesar", is currently filming 2017 movies, "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" and "Logan Lucky".
