To those acquainted with Changi Lorong 108 Fei Lao Seafood in Boon Lee Eating House at Bedok North, I regret to inform you that the stall has permanently closed.

Back in the olden days, the stall was originally located at Lorong 40 Geylang Road where the late owner, Fei Lao, was chefing and dishing out solid plates of hor fun using a charcoal-fired wok for 4 decades. His legacy was taken over by his nephew who then moved over to Bedok North.

The now-defunct stall was renowned for its variety of zi char dishes as well as its signature wok hei-infused hor fun which had pieces of sea cucumber and pig’s liver in it.

According to netizens, there was a notice from the owner that he wanted to retire and that his children weren’t interested to take over the business. He was also looking for interested parties to buy his recipe and learn his knowledge of cooking the various dishes.

Numerous netizens expressed disappointment upon learning the news, with comments such as “Oh what a sad news for all. They have the best Hor Fun” and “There’s no other comparable stall”.

As per someone who had a conversation with the owner, there’s a possibility of a comeback after sufficient rest, featuring a streamlined menu focusing on just hor fun and fried rice (that may be a good thing).

From my own observations, hawkers managing extensive menus often grapple with workload and quality. Focusing on a few key dishes could enhance consistency and taste.

Regardless of Changi Lorong 108 Fei Lao Seafood’s return, let’s hope the owner enjoys a well-deserved break and takes time for himself after wholeheartedly catering to customers  all these years.
