Central Perk SG set to open its doors this weekend

Nearly eight months since it was first announced, the “F.R.I.E.N.D.S”-inspired Central Perk Singapore cafe will finally open its doors to the public this weekend (26-27 November) with a soft launch.

Central Perk is a fictional coffee house from the US TV sitcom “F.R.I.E.N.D.S”, where the show’s main characters were often seen hanging out.

Lim Jit Min, 28, the man behind Central Perk Singapore and a fan of the US sitcom, hinted at a possible meet-and-greet session with the “F.R.I.E.N.D.S” stars.

“The chance if we manage to bring the stars down for a meet-and-greet session, I can only fit maybe a maximum 1,000 people,” he said. He also said that cafe memberships would be limited to between 300 to 500 slots.

Fans can also expect to take a trip down memory lane as the cafe features replica furniture, character-inspired feature walls, Monica’s kitchen and even Patsy the Dog from the show, which aired its last episode in 2004.

Central Perk Singapore is the only cafe outside of the United States that has been granted the permission to use the intellectual property from the original TV series. Fans can also look forward to purchasing merchandise from the show at the cafe.

The cafe’s initial opening was set for March 2017 but due the overwhelming response that the project received on crowdfunding website Indiegogo, along with investors stepping forward to fund the cafe, the date was brought forward.
