Celine Tam wins in Japanese singing competition
27 Sep – Remember child performer Celine Tam, who wowed the judges on "America's Got Talent"? The Hong Kong child star has recently moved on to another talent competition - this time in Japan.
As reported on Mingpao, the 11-year-old recently appeared on TV Asahi's karaoke singing competition, loosely translated "The Mozart Music King No. 1 Battle", and won three consecutive challenges to win the championship.
Celine's first opponent was a 14-year-old student. Both performed Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On", with Celine getting her first win with 98.4 points. She later competed with an 8-year-old contestant, singing the Japanese song, "Nadasoso", and advanced into the final round with 97.998 points.
In the final battle, Celine challenged the champion, 15-year-old Hinata to perform the "Frozen" theme song, "Let it Go". She defeated Hinata with 98.7 points, becoming the champion of the show.
In an interview later on, Celine shared, "I was nervous when the points were being counted because all the contestants performed well. But of course, I am happy to win the championship."
Celine also said that it is her first time coming to Tokyo and hopes to visit the Japanese city again soon.
