Celine Ma: I'm not a hero, just someone who loves HK very much!

24 Oct – TVB actress Celina Ma recently sat down for an interview for the first time since she was attacked on the streets of Mongkok allegedly by Hong Kong protesters.

As reported on Mingpao, the actress, who spoke to Xinhuanet weeks after she was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for her injuries, stated that she does not regret her previous action that led to her assault.

Recalling the incident that occurred earlier this month, the actress said that she encountered three people in black mask vandalising a Bank of China ATM machine while she was in the area, and decided to record the incident on her smart phone.

Celine speculated that she was sprayed with an unknown liquid, and in the chaos, was kicked and felled to the ground.

"At that time, someone hit me with an umbrella, and there was another punch to my face. I went to the hospital afterwards, and I realised that my chin was cut," she said.

The actress said she was very thankful to the Australian journalist who assisted her during the assault, adding that the same journalist accompanied her to the police.

"I am so sorry that the reporter has been labelled "pro-China" because of that," she added.

As to the praises she received from the pro-China supporters for her action, Celine said that she does not consider herself a hero.

"I am an ordinary citizen who loves Hong Kong, who listens to her conscience and speaks out. When I think back to the incident, it really scared me. My family and friends were also worried about me. But I don't regret it. If I could turn back time, I would still do the same," she added.

The actress stated that she feels saddened by the state of Hong Kong in recent months, and expressed hope that the protesters would stop and take a good look at what she described as "the ruined city".

"The future of Hong Kong belongs to you. How can you destroy the future?" she asked.
