Pop star icon and TV personality Melanie Brown, AKA Mel B, has been made an MBE for services to charitable causes and vulnerable women.

The Spice Girl, 46, became a patron of the domestic violence charity Women’s Aid in 2018 dedicated after leaving what she described as an abusive relationship.

She received the honour from the Duke of Cambridge at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, and dedicated her award to “all the other women” who have dealt with or are dealing with domestic violence.

For the prestigious and proud occasion the former pop star wore a figure-hugging persimmon red dress by fellow former Spice Girls bandmate Victoria Beckham.

The fashion designer and ex-pop star reportedly advised Mel B to wear nipple covers but the singer chose to go “stark, b****ck naked” beneath her dress instead.

Mel B isn’t the only Spice Girl to be mentioned in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list, Victoria Beckham was awarded an OBE in 2017 for her services to the fashion industry. She wore a long-sleeved knitted midi dress by her own brand for the occasion.

Whilst nowadays celebrities tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to what to wear to meet royalty, it certainly wasn’t always the case.

Case in point: In arguably one of the most famous British-royalty-meets-pop-royalty photographs of all time, a sunglasses-clad Kanye West is seen partying with Princes Harry and William back in 2007.
