I was intrigued when I spotted the selections of affordable Christmas iHEAT mini buffet sets which is ideal for 10 persons— this was perfect for our intimate festive gathering!

There are 3 choices: Joyful Holiday iHEAT (S$321.84), Whimsical Holiday iHEAT (S$429.84) and Enchanting Holiday iHEAT (S$537.84). Embracing the “Go big or go home” mantra, I decided to make a statement for our office celebration and opted for the Enchanting Holiday iHEAT experience.

When you’re ready to kick things into gear and warm up your meal, just lift the food container to unveil the heating tray, equipped with 2 heating agent packs and 2 heating trays.

Following this, pour the liquid from the supplied water packs into the tray. Subsequently, extract the 2 heating agents from their pack and position them in the water. (Do not touch the heating agent with wet hands).

Before the magic happens beneath, swiftly place the food container over the food tray and close the plastic lid tightly.

Heat the food for at least 15 minutes, or longer if needed, to reach your desired temperature preference, adjusting accordingly. And voila— comforting, hot food!

A cautionary note: Steam generated is exceptionally hot, posing a high risk of burns. Be cautious and avoid placing your hands over it while the heating process is ongoing.

The Enchanting Holiday iHEAT has all bases covered with its extensive 13-course lineup, spanning appetisers, mains, and yummy desserts.

The team at How’s Catering demonstrated meticulous planning by offering a comprehensive set of disposable cutlery, plates, bowls, paper napkins, serving tongs, spoons, and even a table mat for added aesthetics— kudos for being so detail-oriented!

Now, let me dive straight into the exceptional offerings of this feast. And I must say, this streamlined rendition of a full-blown buffet does not compromise in both presentation and quality, yet the question lingers: will the taste match up? I was about to find out!

Right from the start, the Cranberry Kale Salad with Spiced Chickpeas & Homemade Pomegranate Dressing captivated with its stunning vibrant hues.

A variety of greens like kale, rocket lettuce, cucumber slices and alfalfa sprouts were topped with pumpkin seeds, pomegranate seeds, sliced pink radish, dried cranberries and spiced chickpeas.

Enjoy this salad by drizzling the tangy pomegranate dressing that not only bursts with flavour and texture but is also a powerhouse of antioxidants.

The first main, Baked Barramundi with Smoked Harissa, Capers & Olives had nicely-charred barramundi slices topped with sliced leek, tomato-on-vine and was sprinkled with dry dill.

The barramundi, tender and moist, combined with the harissa sauce, aromatic and smokey, formed a pairing that dreams are made of. The grassy undertones of the dried dill, complemented by the bursts of acidity from the tomatoes, elevated the combination even further.

The Portuguese Grilled Peri-Peri Chicken came topped with red onion slices and coriander, and was served with lime wedges. A  few golden drops squeezed from the lime were all that was needed to elevate the chicken to the next level, blending the robustly fragrant spices with bright, citrusy notes.

Just when I thought I was done, I dunked the chicken into the light-orange gravy by the side and oh boy… I was blown away! Unsure of the composition of the sauce, I could discern distinct notes of red capsicum and it culminated with a subtle spicy kick.

Each Christmas iHEAT buffet set allows you to choose the carbs you want: opt for the Low GI Moroccan Brown Rice with Raisins & Almond Flakes or Homemade Locally Farmed Herb Pesto Capellini with Parmesan Cheese & Pine Nuts.

For our Christmas celebration, we opted for the latter— a refreshing palate cleanser featuring herby capellini pasta, delectable pine nuts, and zesty sun-dried and cherry tomatoes.

Great for seafood enthusiasts, the Fisherman’s Seafood Stew presented an array of ocean treasures. Submerged in a rich seafood broth were pieces of black mussels, fish, squid, and peeled prawns.

I was impressed with the gravy; full-bodied, slightly tart with the tomato base, and bursting with seafood goodness. It reminded me of a good seafood bisque that is meticulously simmered with lots of crustacean shells and vegetables.

The Turkey Sausage with Cranberries in Caramelised Onion Gravy was comforting with delicious turkey sausages resting atop a bed of rich and smooth mashed potatoes. The caramelised onions and cranberries also contributed different hints of sweetness.

The Charred Brussels Sprouts with Smoky Gochujang Glaze was a good twist to the usual, traditional renditions. The brussels sprouts gave a gentle hint of bitterness coupled with sweet, smokey notes coming from the glaze. Marble potatoes and baby carrots were also added to the mix for variety and colour.

The Kabocha Croquettes with Garlic Aioli consisted of Japanese pumpkins which were battered with a layer of golden, crispy bread crumbs. The aioli added a garlicky punch which I thoroughly enjoyed.

The Mexican Taco Baked Casserole featured an artful drizzling of mayo and nacho cheese sauce on top, garnished with spring onions. The filling comprised velvety mashed potatoes complemented by sweet corn kernels, all crowned with a layer of crisp tortilla chips.

Our last main dish was the Hungarian Beef Cheek. Chunks of beef cheek were served with roasted carrots, celeriac and marble potatoes in a delightful stew. The meat was tender to the point that it melted in my mouth almost instantly.

The Enchanting Holiday iHEAT also comes with 3 desserts for a sweet finish. The Yuletide Yule Log looked like it was covered in snow with a red mirror glaze with cute star and tree motifs.

The initial familiar hints of pandan were swiftly followed by the delicate floral notes of rose and the tangy sweetness of raspberry. As I delved deeper, the enjoyment heightened with the discovery of a salty, chunky peanut butter centre at the base.

You’ll also get 2 small-bite desserts which are absolutely stunning. The Raspberry Ivory Chocolate Tart with Biscotti is topped with a crispy and nutty green biscuit, paired with a sharp raspberry custard centre and a buttery biscuit base.

The Apricot Pistachio Fig Yogurt Cake is covered with crunchy pistachio crumble with a tangy apricot and yoghurt custard which (to me) looks like a cute runny egg.
