The all-black outfit has become shorthand for smart/casual attire. A charcoal polo thrown over trousers? Très chic. Jet-black kitten heels beneath a matching suit? Encore!

This underdog of fashion might not shout as loudly as on-trend hues of red, pink, and green, but it certainly commands attention. The beauty of an all-black outfit is that it speaks volumes in elegance, sophistication and simplicity.

And the proof is in the pudding - some of fashions biggest moments have stemmed from the simplicity of an all-black outfit. Think back to Elizabeth Hurley's safety pin dress, Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's and not forgetting Kim Kardashian's infamous head-to-toe fashion statement at the 2022 Met Gala.

Leaning into the timeless appeal of an all-black outfit last night (15 February) were two stalwarts of the big screen: Sarah Snook and Cate Blanchett.

The Australian actresses smiled for pictures as they posed with their arms around one another.

They were attending an after party, following the press night of Sarah's one-woman play, The Picture Of Dorian Gray, at London's Theatre Royal Haymarket.

While leading lady, Sarah, paired a smart black suit with a delicate silver necklace, Cate complimented her outfit with bold accessories, including a dragonfly brooch and thick-rimmed black glasses.

Sarah is perhaps best known for playing the enigmatic Shiv Roy in all four seasons ofHBO show, Succession, garnering critical acclaim as she secured two Golden Globe Awards and three Primetime Emmy Award nominations.

Following her role in the hit TV series, Sarah is now taking to the stage in the play adaption of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray at Theatre Royal Haymarket in London.
